Our Story

At Animal Companion Counseling (ACC), we’ve built our organization around one core belief: meaningful, quality mental health therapy starts with a strong, supportive relationship.

Since our beginning in 2021, our goal has been to create a space where people feel comfortable showing up as they are, and where clinicians have the support they need to be fully present in their work. We’ve found that when therapists are able to focus on the person in front of them, care naturally becomes more consistent, thoughtful, and effective.

Our work is grounded in evidence-based therapy approaches, and it’s always shaped by you: your goals, your pace, and what feels most relevant in your day-to-day life. We also offer the option to include animal-assisted interventions (AAI), which can help make the process feel more at ease and approachable.

As we’ve grown, we’ve stayed focused on what matters most: creating a space where good work can happen and where people feel genuinely supported along the way.

We’re glad you’re here.

Values That Guide Our Work

Safety

Approach treatment for individuals while emphasizing safety, security and acceptance.

Community

Promote the well-being and long-term sustainability of our community and all of its members.

Equity

Ensure equitable access to mental health services for all while prioritizing at-risk and underserved populations. Work along with our animals to overcome the stigma of mental illness and barriers to service delivery.

Understanding

Recognize therapy as a dialectical process in which we teach to, learn from and along with, our clients and community. Provide education about the importance of animal welfare and contribute to the evidence base of AAI.

Action

Work as individuals and collectively to oppose policies and practices which perpetuate inequity and exploitation of the working class, in order to achieve a more fair and just world. Ensure and promote the welfare of our TAAs and all animals.
